Chi

A Zed-based editor with a Ghostty terminal.

Chi editor

Install

curl -fsSL https://git.adriankiezik.dev/adrian/chi/raw/branch/master/install.sh | sh

That downloads the latest stable x86_64 glibc Linux release into ~/.local/bin/chi and puts that directory on your PATH. Release tags containing test are skipped unless selected explicitly with CHI_VERSION, for example CHI_VERSION=v0.2.0-test.1. There has to be a published Release first (Actions → Release). Alpine/musl and ARM are not shipped yet.

chi # open the current directory
chi ~/project # open that directory
chi file.rs # open the file's parent directory and the file
# optional
CHI_INSTALL_DIR=/usr/local/bin CHI_VERSION=v0.1.0 sh install.sh

GitLab merge-request reviews

Chi uses glab for GitLab authentication and API access. Install glab, then authenticate once from the repository:

glab auth login

glab reads the Git remote, so GitLab.com and self-hosted instances are detected automatically. Use a personal access token with api and write_repository scopes.

  • Ctrl-Alt-M: search open merge requests, inspect discussions, manage pending comments, submit a review, or check out the source branch.
  • General and inline comments are saved as private GitLab draft notes until you choose Submit review. Drafts persist between Chi sessions and can be discarded before submission.
  • Ctrl-Alt-C: while reviewing an MR, add a draft comment on the current changed line. Inline comments are available only on lines included in the MR diff.
  • Selecting a discussion’s path:line opens that location in the editor.

Build and release

Both workflows are manual. In the repo Actions tab, run Build to compile, or Release and pass a tag like v0.1.0 to publish a downloadable archive.
